I’m New

Welcome to Saint John Lutheran Church. We’re a community that thrives on worship but does more than simply come to church on Sunday. We’re passionate about Council Bluffs feeling at home in our church and helping Christians HEAR the Word, LIVE the Word, and SHARE the Word.

Saint John is a multi-generational community of believers.  Young and old worship together, learn together, and grow in faith.  Saint John has many young families as well as an active middle school and high school age group.  They enjoy taking on leadership roles in worship and in the community.  In addition, there is much wisdom and guidance from older members, many of whom have been a part of Saint John for decades.

Worship at Saint John Lutheran Church

All ages are welcome and invited to worship together as the body of Christ, from the very youngest to the very oldest. Children’s voices and movements are a joy in the worshiping community. Please come early or stay after for doughnut, coffee, juice and fellowship. We enjoy spending time together in conversation and laughter while gathered in the Welcome Center with a cup of coffee from our “Holy Grounds” coffee bar. Sunday School meets between the worship services.

Clothing choices for worship range from casual to more formal, depending on the person.  Please wear what style makes you comfortable to worship.

All are welcome to Lord’s Table. Communion instruction takes places in 5th grade.  For those who choose not to receive communion we invite you to come forward for a blessing.

Worship services are rooted in traditional liturgy with the music being a variety of contemporary and traditional mixed within all the worship services.  Special music, choirs, praise team, organ, and piano are all utilized.

Offering is part of the worship service as we share part of what God has first gifted us. You can give on line, set up recurring giving via “Simply Giving”, or with the envelopes mailed home or found in the pews. Offering or tithing is not required but it is encouraged as a faith practice of stewardship. There is an insert in the weekly worship bulletin where you can let us know that you joined us for worship.

Saint John is focused heavily on intergenerational ministrywhere everyone learns and lives life together. Faith is passed on between the generations and thus, we embrace our relationships with one another. However, we also acknowledge the importance of age group relationships, thus we offer learning and fellowship time that is structured by age group as well.

Saint John serves both inside and outside the walls. We have partnerships with Bloomer School and the Center for Healthy Families. Groups regularly volunteer with Children’s Square and MOHM’s Place. We also support the local food pantry at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and have many and various other service and outreach projects that occur throughout the year. There are also many fellowship groups, Bible studies, Christ Care, women’s & men’s groups, music options, lay leadership opportunities, and children, youth, and family ministries.
